This weekend I had an opportunity to endeavor a new Black Owned Business by name of The Rub: Chicken & Beer which is located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. This business has only been opened since January of this year, so I was extremely impressed with the 4.6 out of 5 rating I searched on the internet.
The moment I stepped into the restaurant; I could feel the ambience. The first thing I noticed walking in, was the wall with the big rooster spitting hot fire. I can already tell their chefs probably swish around a lot of spices. Not only do they have chicken sandwich’s that have an umph to them, but they also serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm. Who doesn’t like a good brunch spot that also sells drinks?
I decided to try the Fricken Good Fried Chicken sandwich which is a customer favorite. It comes on a buttery soft bun with pickle chips, lettuce, tomato, buttermilk herb ranch and avocado. Due to this being my first try, I choose the mild spice, which they described as wimpy just to try it out. Their spice level varies from Wimpy to Cluckin’ Hot. Maybe on my next visit I will go up a level.
Taking that first bite with the avocado made me forget I was eating a chicken sandwich. Everything blended so well. I also had the sweet potato waffle fries with the cinnamon sugar ranch as my side. The Rub will make you question everything you taste. You’ll keep asking yourself “What is That? “I highly recommend this restaurant to those who are willing to try something different. If you don’t want the bun, they will drop your ingredients into a salad. You like it, They love it!
